ABOUT THE BOOK

Interference is not identity. Radios can be retuned.

What if your brain doesn't create consciousness — but receives it?

Your brain is the most complex object in the known universe. And yet science cannot find, inside it, the one thing you know most directly: the feeling of being alive. The redness of red. The ache of grief. The sense of being you.

Board-certified psychiatrist Dr. Lenoy Galvez has spent nearly two decades inside the mystery — in emergency rooms, inpatient units, and the quiet rooms where people describe what happened when their brains briefly stopped. In The Antenna and the Signal, he makes the provocative, carefully argued case: the brain is not the generator of consciousness but its antenna — a receiver, filter, and tuner for a signal that may exist beyond the body.

The search is also personal. When Dr. Galvez was a small child, his grandfather's heart stopped — and he came back with a story no one in the family could explain. That story never left him. It is the reason a psychiatrist went looking.

Drawing on:

  • Quantum physics — from the double-slit experiment to the strange observer-dependent nature of reality
  • Near-death-experience research — including the dying brain's final gamma surge
  • Psychedelic science — what DMT and psilocybin reveal when the brain's filters loosen
  • Psychiatric practice — what mental illness, anesthesia, and healing look like through the antenna lens

From Plato's cave to the frontiers of neuroscience, across eight chapters and twenty-eight original illustrations — a psychiatrist's synthesis of a century-old idea, from William James to Aldous Huxley, examined with clinical honesty and scientific care.

Dr. Lenoy Galvez is a board-certified psychiatrist, Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Medical Director, and molecular biologist. He writes about consciousness, mental health, and the science of the mind at The Quantum Self Project.

Interference is not identity. Radios can be retuned.

The signal is already broadcasting. It's time to tune in.

The book's thesis. Consciousness — the signal: Awareness itself is everywhere, all the time. The fundamental broadcast in which every experience appears. The brain — the antenna: The receiver. It doesn't create the signal — it tunes and filters it, and a lifetime of conditioning shapes the filter, deciding what gets through. The mind — the program playing: Thoughts, memories, the inner voice — what the signal sounds like after passing through this particular filter. Consciousness is the broadcast; the brain is the set; the mind is the program playing.
The book's thesis: consciousness is the broadcast; the brain is the set; the mind is the program playing.
